Feeling peckish after dress shopping with out much success for miss A's up coming dinner dance. We were in the vicinity of George St East Freo. A lovely little area of shops and eating places. Perfect for a sunny winter's afternoon. Barque is a favourite but always wanting new experiences we headed for The George St Bistro. We weren't disappointed at all.
All the outside tables had been taken understandable as the sun was shining. We grabbed the last table for two left in the window. Perfect to watch the world go by.
A waitress sat us down and menus plus water followed quickly. I decided on the prawn and chicken laksa miss A ordered the pork and roast veggie pie with mash and gravy.
There was a bit of a wait but as we had arrived just after 4 other tables who were still ordering we were glad they delivered our meals in the time they did. Older reviews had made me want to dine here last Dec but that never happened. I am glad to find even after a change of owner in May this year service and food quality has not slipped. The laksa was fresh and deliciously prepared. My chicken was softly poached and the prawns were grilled separately and placed on top. The surprise to find was tofu and there was 2 types of noodles used and loads of fresh coriander. I could have done with a little more spice but as they aren't an Asian restaurant they were probably being safe. A little slice of lime and the option of more chilli and chopsticks would have made it perfect.
My daughter's pie was a lovely combination of pork in a tomato based sauce packed with filling and loads of veggies. The mash was smooth but she probably wanted more gravy knowing her. All in all we had a great lunch. The prices were very reasonable too..
We couldn't fit in coffee or dessert so we took home a slice of passionfruit and lime brullee tart. That was eaten at home much later and was tart and Devine to say the least.
